Slash chord tool
Using the tool below, you can select a root chord — such as a C major triad — and combine it with a freely chosen bass note. Based on this selection, the tool displays all the scales examined in detail within this theory of harmony that fit the resulting harmonic pattern.Additionally, a corresponding chord matching the scale is displayed. Notes to be avoided are marked in yellow and are presented either in parentheses or as struck through. They appear struck through when they should be avoided due to strong dissonances. They are enclosed in parentheses when they alter the character of the chord, anticipate the third or seventh of the following chord within a cadence, or lie merely a minor second away from another important chord tone.
In slash chords, important tones—such as the third and the seventh—are often missing. They can be supplied by the composer, for example, in the melody.
